Key distributors such as Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Ubisoft have all announced their non-participation in the upcoming E3 2023, raising questions about the possibility of the event to actually take place. To add insult to injury, it is now confirmed that Sega and Tencent's Level Infinite will not attend the largest returning event within the gaming industry, as reported by IGN.
IGN reporters have interviewed several individuals in publishing and PR who have insight into event planning, all of whom have voiced concerns about the upcoming summer event. Many have stated that they haven't heard of anyone confirming attendance, and some have noted a significant lack of communication from the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and organizer ReedPop regarding what attendees can expect from the event. The situation is described by some as a standstill, where everyone is waiting for someone else to commit to a withdrawal. With time running out, the situation has become increasingly urgent.
IGN also noted that publishers such as EA, Square Enix, Activision Blizzard, Epic Games, Take-Two, and Warner Bros. Games have not reponded in time for publication regarding their plans for E3. They are aware that there are still many publishers who intend to skip E3 but yet to make a formal announcement.
