The original author, Aka Akasaka, expressed, "I initially thought it would be impossible to adapt Oshi no Ko into a live-action version. After all, it's a work that delves into many aspects of the entertainment industry, and the characters express opinions about the industry that may not necessarily be positive; in fact, there might be more criticisms. I couldn't help but worry about whether it would really be okay for the actors and the production team. However, at the same time, I'm grateful that they were willing to take on the challenge of bringing this work to life. As for how the final product of this work will turn out, I am quite interested and hope that everyone will join me in witnessing the end product."
Oshi no Ko tells the story of gynecologist Goro Amemiya who was killed short after being tasked with the delivery of the twins of Ai Hoshino, a Japanese idol whom he admires. After he awakens, he finds himself reincarnated as one of Ai Hoshino's newborn twins, Aquamarine Hoshino.
