Xbox head Phil Spencer has recently responded to the below-par performance of Redfall in an interview with Kinda Funny Games. In addition, he also mentioned the competition among the three major console makers, stating that Xbox is slightly behind in the console market and doesn't have many great games to help it surpass Sony or Nintendo.

He believes that Xbox currently does not have the optimal solution that will allow them to come on top, and although it may be discouraging to say, the truth is that the top two (Sony and Nintendo) are very competitive and could even collaborate exclusively with other game developers, making it difficult for the Xbox team to stay in the race.

He also stresses that, while the public may think that Xbox can gain market share simply by releasing a better blockbuster game, it's in fact not that simple. Phil Spencer says that even if Starfield could stand out as a great game, it would not be adequate in helping Xbox challenge Playstation's current market position, as players would not sell their PS5 consoles just because of Starfield.
