Creator Michael Nowak, along with collaborator Trent Garlipp, has officially announced a story-driven adventure game titled Vivarium, set in a terrarium world. Details such as the release date and platforms have not been disclosed at the moment.
The game adopts a 1930s cartoon style similar to Cuphead, evoking the charm of classic hand-drawn animation graphics. Drawing inspiration from Japanese classic animations of the 1970s to 1980s, such as Chulip and Boku no Natsuyasumi, each frame in the game is meticulously handcrafted. Vivarium primarily focuses on integrating aspects of everyday life into the gameplay to provide players with an experience that emphasizes exploration and character-driven storytelling.
In the game, players take on the role of a girl named "Jennie" residing in the fantasy world of "Vivarium". One day, she discovers a massive withered tree that disrupts the balance of this world, along with a sprout symbolizing new life. To facilitate the healthy growth of the sprout, players will guide Jennie in assisting the characters of this world, unraveling various puzzles, accumulating diverse experiences, all in an effort to nurture the sprout into robust growth.
