Since 1987, Japan has observed February 22 as its national Cat Day, thanks to the efforts of the Cat Day Executive Committee. This date was chosen because the sound of a cat's meow, "nyan, nyan, nyan", corresponds to the Japanese numbers "2, 2, 2".

To commemorate this occasion, the popular anime series The Apothecary Diaries has launched a special trailer showcasing over a minute of everyone's beloved cat, Maomao.

The Apothecary Diaries premiered on October 22, 2023 and is currently in its second cour, which is expected to conclude on Mar 24, 2024. The story depicts a young girl named Maomao, who is just 17 years old, has been kidnapped and forced to work as a servant within the ancient imperial court of China. Despite her circumstances, she perseveres with her inquisitive and pragmatic nature, determined to fulfill her duties until the end of her servitude.

Unexpectedly, Maomao stumbles upon the news that the emperor's twin infants have fallen seriously ill. Motivated by her background as a pharmacist raised in the poor red-light district, she resolves to take secret action to aid the ailing infants. Although she intends to maintain her anonymity, her actions inevitably capture the attention of a powerful eunuch, thrusting her into the role of unraveling numerous mysteries within the imperial court.
