Japanese manga artist Yusei Matsui, who previously created the popular manga series Assassination Classroom and ended it with a bittersweet finale, has announced today the production of a TV anime adaptation of his latest work Nige Jouzu no Wakagimi ("The Elusive Samurai"). The anime will be produced by CloverWorks, with Yuta Yamazaki serving as director. Along with the announcement, an official PV and key visual were also released for fans to take a sneak peek.
In 1333 AD, the Kamakura shogunate's senior vassal, Ashikaga Takauji, defected to the Emperor Go-Daigo, resulting in the shogunate's overthrow and the near-destruction of the ruling Hōjō clan. The young shogun, Hojo Tokiyuki, sought refuge with the chief priest of the Suwa Shrine, Suwa Yorishige, in Shinano Province. Under the protection of the Suwa clan, Tokiyuki grew and befriended like-minded allies, honing his skills in escape and beginning his legendary path as a hero who achieved greatness through his ability to run away. But for now, he is just a young boy who has lost his home and family, and has nowhere to go.
