Overwatch 2's PvE Hero Mode scrapped as development falls short of expectations

Overwatch 2's PvE Hero Mode scrapped as development falls short of expectations

One of the biggest highlights when Overwatch 2 was officially announced was perhaps its planned PvE Hero Mode, where players will be able to perform a series of cooperative missions to explore more about the story and plot of Overwatch.

However, in a recent livestream, producer Jared Neuss confirmed that the development of the PvE mode has been canceled, as the overall development did not make the expected progress, and integrating such a grand vision together would require tremendous effort. Neuss stated that the team couldn't see an end to this process, so they faced a dilemma of either fully commit to developing the PvE content and completing it at some point, or focus on the current multiplayer game mode services. The decision to scrap the originally planned PvE mode means that the proposed talent system and hero mode, among other features, have also been canceled.

Although the ambitious PvE plan for Overwatch 2 is officially scrapped, the team promised that there will be story missions and co-op modes with PvE elements set to be released as seasonal content in the future. More details will be announced soon by the developer.
