Developed and published by Mainframe Industries, sandbox MMORPG Pax Dei has been announced, along with the release of a reveal trailer. The game is currently set for a PC release, however no official launch date has been announced as of yet. Players could now sign-up for the alpha playtest here.
"It is about maximizing human interaction in a meaningful way, and we feel this is the 'holy grail' of MMO design," said the game's director Reynir Hardarson. In Pax Dei, there are no NPCs, as every settlement is built by players. Also, there is no item vendors or quest-givers, as all of their roles are played by players themselves. This kind of sandbox freedom is built upon the player driven economy and in-depth crafting system. If you need something, you ask and pay for it from someone who specializes at it, becoming the "quest-giver" in the process.
Visually, the game is impressive. Built by Unreal Engine 5 and coupled with its highly customizable gameplays, the game seems to be capable of offering an extremely immersive experience. In terms of story, the team said that they have incorporated elements from myths and fables from all around the world. It sounds like PVE and PVP will play a huge part in the game like all other MMO does, but not much details have been shared yet.
The game also seeks to accommodate both casual and hardcore players, aiming to build a virtual world where "everyone finds a role to play, because everyone in the world of Pax Dei matters," said Thor Gunnarsson, CEO of Mainframe Industries.
"The stage is yours, and we just can't wait to see the world that you make of it.“
