Nightmare Forge Games has announced a new co-op horror game titled Infestation: Origins and has unveiled its Steam page. It is anticipated that the game will be released in Early Access sometime in 2024.
According to the game's official Steam description,
In the 1980s, what was thought to be an outbreak of vermin morphed into something far more sinister. Infestation: Origins is an episodic, four player co-op survival horror game in which you and your friends are exterminators called in to treat these mysterious infestations.
It's worth mentioning that the game will feature infected classic characters, based on classic characters that have entered the public domain. This includes characters like Mickey Mouse, who is now in the public domain as part of Disney's recently expired character copyrights.
By the way, it's worth noting that this game was initially named Infestation: 88. However, due to the fact that the term "88" carries other meanings in some countries (Wiki: Nazi salutes and related slogans are strictly prohibited in post-war Germany. Thus, neo-Nazis use "88" to represent "Heil Hitler" instead), the official decision was made to change the title to Infestation: Origins.
The developers stated, "We want to apologize for our ignorance on this topic and appreciate that it was brought to our attention so we could address it."
