SEGA unveiled the latest information about Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (Yakuza 8) at today's RGG SUMMIT FALL 2023 special event, during which producer Masayoshi Yokoyama presented a 10-minute story trailer and announced the game's release date. The game is set to be released globally on January 26, 2024, and will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Xbox One, and Steam.
In this newly released trailer, we finally find out why the portagonist Ichiban Kasuga is set to appear completely naked on a beach in Hawaii — he was deceived into coming to Hawaii in search of his biological mother and was stripped of everything.
Kazuma Kiryu has also made an appearance this time, revealing that he is actually battling cancer, and due to his own reasons, he traveled to Hawaii. Things that he used to handle on his own now require the help of his companions in order to accomplish his ultimate goal.
This upcoming game is set to feature the largest roster of characters from the Yakuza series, with many familiar opponents and allies making appearances. There will also be the presence of Hawaiian mafia and Chinese mafia, among others, all of whom are searching for Masumi Arakawa's wife, Akane.
At the same time, another newly released trailer showcases the game's combat system, interactions and friendship building gameplay with companions from various locations, as well as a variety of interesting mini-games.
The combat system in this game is quite similar to its predecessor Yakuza: Like a Dragon (Yakuza 7), inheriting its turn-based battle system. However, what's interesting is that when Kazuma Kiryu "Awakens", the combat switches from turn-based to action-oriented gameplay. Additionally, players can also explore various Hawaiian-themed activities in the game and take on different jobs such as "Samurai", "Desperado", "Geodancer", "Pyrodancer", "Housekeeper", "Action Star", and more.
