After Microsoft's official acquisition of Activision Blizzard, CEO Bobby Kotick, who has been with the latter for 32 years, has confirmed his resignation, effective December 29, 2023. He expressed his farewell message via the company's official website.
Meanwhile, Microsoft CEO and head Phil Spencer also announced other changes in the leadership team at Activision Blizzard. Prior to Kotick's departure, Sarah Bond has been promoted to President of Xbox, overseeing all Xbox hardware and software businesses, while Matt Booty is now President of Game Content and Studios, responsible for overseeing ZeniMax Studios and Starfield's development studio, Bethesda.
According to The Verge's report, CEO Phil Spencer has announced a significant departure of current high-level executives at Activision Blizzard, and the remaining department leaders will guide the teams through this transition. "For most of you, your day-to-day work will remain the same—it’s still business as usual in bringing more groundbreaking experiences to more players around the world," states Spencer in the announcement.
“At the leadership level, these changes will provide the clarity and accountability that is necessary to achieve our ambitious goals and foster a culture that is welcoming, empowering, and committed to Gaming for Everyone.”
