During last year's CES exhibition, Sony announced a collaboration with Honda to launch an electric car brand named Afeela and simultaneously unveiled the car's prototype. The Afeela electric car boasts over 40 sensors, encompassing cameras, radar, ultrasonic sensors, and lidar, designed to enhance both detection and autonomous driving capabilities. Sony aims to capitalize on its vast entertainment content advantages, including music, games, movies, etc., to offer an even more exceptional and distinctive in-car entertainment experience. The pre-sale is anticipated to commence in 2025.
At this year's CES 2024, Sony pleasantly surprised attendees by showcasing the Afeela electric car on stage in a unique fashion—operating the vehicle with their PlayStation 5 controller, DualSense. The official presentation also delved into additional details about Afeela, covering its concept, interior design, features, and more.
Although presently unavailable for hands-on experience, it is anticipated that the Afeela will be featured in Polyphony Digital's upcoming game, Gran Turismo 7, expected to be released in 2024. Players will have the opportunity to "test drive" and explore this innovative electric car through the game.
