EA has revealed the latest branding for it's popular football simulation game, previously called the FIFA series. Now titled EA Sports FC, the rebranding comes after last year's announcement that EA would terminate its long-standing 30-year partnership with FIFA, the governing body of football.
The inability to reach an agreement on a new licensing contract by both parties means that the name "FIFA" could no longer be used by EA as the title of its popular football game series, at the same time officially bringing an end to one of the largest and most profitable partnerships in the history of gaming.
According to EA, the new logo design revolves around the concept of "triangles", representing the staple player indicator symbol that appears above every player in the game, as well as the dominating set plays in the football world.
It seems that EA will not lose any sleep over giving up the name "FIFA" on the cover of its game either, as almost all of the popular football leagues such as the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and others continue its partnership with EA, allowing their names and logos to be presented in-game.
In EA's recent press release, the upcoming Sports FC is described as a "platform to create, innovate and grow new football experiences, connecting hundreds of millions of fans through console, mobile, online and esports products", showcasing the company's optimism and ambition in the future development of the rebranded series.
"EA Sports FC will be a symbol for the sport, a symbol of innovation and change, and we're energised to show our fans more about the future in July," said Nick Wlodyka, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA Sports FC.
