French game developer Microids recently announced a collaboration with the well-known Japanese animation company TMS Entertainment to develop a new game based on the classic anime Cobra. The game is planned to be released on consoles and PC platforms, but the release date has not yet been announced.
FYI, the Cobra series has been previously adapted into a game called Cobra: Kokuryuuou no Densetsu released for PC Engine CD-ROM² in 1989.
The original Cobra manga was created by Japanese manga artist Buichi Terasawa and was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1978 to 1984, selling over 50 million copies. It has since generated various adaptations, including anime, games, and more. The story follows the adventures of the main character, space pirate Cobra, who has a psychogun implanted in his left arm. To avoid pursuit by his enemies, he has altered his face and has his memory erased, living a normal life. However, when his memories return, he reunites with his robot companion, Lady Armaroid, and fights against enemies and crime organizations.
