The 2D action-adventure game series Hollow Knight, developed by the indie team Team Cherry, has won numerous awards, nominations, and unanimous praise from players since its release. In 2019, the sequel titled Hollow Knight: Silksong, was officially announced and was scheduled to be released in the first half of 2023.

However, things didn't go as planned. Matthew Griffin, the marketing and publishing lead of Team Cherry, stated that "We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

In Hollow Knight: Silksong, players will assume the role of Hornet, princess-protector of Hallownest, and adventure through a whole new kingdom ruled by silk and song. Captured and brought to this unfamiliar world, Hornet must battle foes and solve mysteries as she ascends on a deadly pilgrimage to the kingdom’s peak.
