After numerous rumors, the official announcement from SIE has confirmed the release of a new model of PlayStation 5, temporarily referred to as the "PS5 Slim". Apart from minor alterations to its external design, official details indicate that the new PS5 model has shrunk in size by over 30% and is lighter by 18% and 24% compared to previous models. Performance-wise, there have been no alterations, but the storage capacity has been extended to 1TB SSD.
As per the information currently disclosed, the PS5 Slim adopts a design comprising four distinct cover panels. The top panel boasts a glossy finish, while the bottom panel retains a matte texture. Furthermore, in light of this completely fresh design, gamers acquiring the disc-less version of the PS5 have the option to purchase separately a high-definition Blu-ray drive compatible with the PS5 Slim, should the need arise.
The new model's U.S. pricing is set at $499.99 USD (with disc drive) and $449.99 USD (Digital Edition). The U.S. release is slated to commence in November, with a worldwide launch planned over the next few months. It's important to highlight that once the existing stock of PS5 models is depleted, the new PS5 will be the sole available option.
