早在 2013 年，韩国游戏开发商 XLGames 就推出了一款名为《上古世纪》的 MMORPG 游戏，今年还上线区块链衍生版本《上古世界》。而在近日，XLGames & Kakao Games 就共同宣布系列新作《上古世纪 2》正在研发当中，计划于 2024 年登陆主机 & PC 平台。
根据制作人介绍所述，《上古世纪 2》将会是款无缝的开放世界动作 MMORPG 游戏，采用虚幻 5 引擎制作，旨在提供动作丰富的战斗、沉浸式的故事情节以及 AAA 级的视觉表现。此外，因为《上古世纪》的交易系统/机制深受玩家喜欢，但本身却存在一些缺陷，所以在《上古世纪 2》会针对交易系统作出改变增强，以应对任何情况下的交易，同时也会强化房屋系统，允许玩家与好友一起住在城镇，甚至与公会成员一起创建他们自己的城镇等等。
