Recently, Square Enix Holdings announced an internal restructuring plan that it will merge its wholly-owned subsidiary, Luminous Productions, into its wholly-owned subsidiary, Square Enix, effective May 1, 2023.

According to the official announcement, this merger is part of the company's efforts to further enhance the competitiveness of its group development studio, which is a goal set in its current mid-term business strategy. Additionally, Square Enix has developed multiple triple A games and possesses multiple intellectual property content. Meanwhile, Luminous Productions not only has the capability to develop triple A games, but also has technical expertise in areas such as game engine development, so the merger of the two companies will further enhance the group's ability to develop top-tier games.

Luminous Productions was established on March 27, 2018, initially composed of staff from Final Fantasy XV. Since its establishment, the studio has only released one title, which is Forspoken released in January 2023.
