The partnership between Blizzard Entertainment and NetEase had expired earlier this year without a successful renewal, which led to a breakdown in their relationship, resulting in several Blizzard games being discontinued in China, including World of Warcraft, Warcraft III: Reforged, Hearthstone, Starcraft, Diablo III, Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, and more.
On the other hand, there were eight e-sports games initially scheduled for the Hangzhou Asian Games. However, due to the current situation between Blizzard and NetEase, the Olympic Council of Asia decided to cancel Hearthstone as one of the competition events, hence there are only seven games left, including Dota 2, League of Legends, Honor of Kings: Asian Games Edition, Game For Peace: Asian Games Edition, Dream Three Kingdoms 2, FIFA, and Street Fighter 5. By the way, the Hangzhou Asian Games are scheduled to be held from September 23 to October 8, 2023.
