Sony has added several fan-requested services such as Discord voice chat and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) for 1440p displays into the next PS5 system software beta.

The beta is now online, as Sony has sent out invitation emails with instructions to beta participants from the U.S., Canada, Japan, U.K., Germany, and France.

The headline feature of this beta test would be the much coveted Discord voice chat, enabling cross-platform voice calls on the console. Users will have to link their PlayStation Network account to Discord in order to enjoy the service. In addition, Sony will also be testing the screen-sharing and “Join Game” functions on the app.

The other major update includes the VRR support for 1440p displays, which enables smoother visual performance when using a compatible display, provided that the game supports the VRR function.

To facilitate the social gaming experience on PS5 and to improve user accessibility, there are also various other UX, accessibility, and social features improvements made in the software beta, such as easier PS4 to PS5 saved data migration and PS5 to PS5 data transfer.
