It has been six years since the release of the latest Mario game, Super Mario Odyssey, which was released in 2017. Most of the other releases since then have been remakes or ports. It is worth noting that, in the interview, Miyamoto confirmed that the Mario series may not appear on mobile platforms in the future because it is not the "primary path" of Mario games and several related mobile games have been taken down.
