Despite Microsoft claiming that Call of Duty Mobile will be "phased out" following the release of Warzone Mobile later this year, Activision Blizzard insists that the former will still be supported in the long run.
Co-developed by Activision Shanghai, Beenox, Digital Legends, and Solid State Studios, Warzone Mobile was officially unveiled last September.
"CoD: Mobile is expected to be phased out over time (outside of China) with the launch of Warzone Mobile," said Microsoft in regards to the ongoing investigation by the UK's Competition and Markets Authority into its proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
"Call of Duty Mobile was developed and is owned by TiMi Studios, a subsidiary of
Tencent," Microsoft pointed out in the statement. It is reasonable to assume that Microsoft may want to fortify its foothold in the global CoD mobile market by launching a game that it fully controls.
However, in the wake of Microsoft's claims, Activision Blizzard has released a statement on Twitter earlier today, emphasizing that Call of Duty Mobile remains a crucial component of the Call of Duty franchise and the company's mobile strategy. As a result, they have stated that a detailed development plan is in place for the game, as a sign of appreciation towards players that have supported the game for a long time.
Call of Duty Mobile had an exceptional year in 2021, with consumer spending surpassing $1 billion and an increase in downloads, particularly after its release in China.
