Thunderbolt Omelet Pro+ Wireless Controller: A Fusion of Portability, Fashion, and Versatility!

Thunderbolt Omelet Pro+ Wireless Controller: A Fusion of Portability, Fashion, and Versatility!

Several months ago, I had the privilege of getting my hands on the much-anticipated Omelet Gaming Switch Pro+ Joy Pad Controller and was left satisfied after putting it to use. Fast forward to the present, I find myself fortunate once more to be exploring yet another gaming controller from Omelet Gaming. This time, it's the limited edition Thunderbolt-colored Omelet Pro+ Wireless Controller. Its striking visual appearance immediately caught my attention when it was first unveiled. With a bold color scheme and unique features, this controller is undeniably a head-turner, and after several gaming sessions of putting it through its paces, I'm eager to share my detailed impressions with you.

Visual Appearance and Design

The Omelet Pro+ Wireless Controller draws inspiration from the Xbox Wireless controller, with a layout that closely resembles the latter. However, it has some distinct features that set it apart. Notably, it lacks textured grips, a departure from the Xbox controller's design. At the heart of the controller proudly sits Omelet Gaming's logo.

The Thunderbolt version of this controller is a visual delight, sporting a Pikachu-themed color scheme. The yellow body, red thumbsticks, and black-finished buttons capture the essence of this beloved Pokémon. What truly makes it shine, quite literally, is the RGB lighting. The ABXY buttons are crystallized and accompanied by dynamic RGB lighting effects, including Monochromatic, Seven-Colour Breathing, and Monochromatic Breathing modes. Users have the flexibility to adjust the brightness or even turn off the RGB lighting if it's not their cup of tea. Overall, the visual appeal of this controller is top-notch, especially for Pikachu fans.

Button Mapping and Extra Features

Beyond the standard layout, the Omelet Pro+ Wireless Controller introduces several additional buttons, such as Home (doubling as a power button) and Screenshot buttons. The View and Menu buttons found on the Xbox controller are replaced with - and + buttons on this gadget. It also incorporates haptic feedback with adjustable vibration intensity via rear-mounted regulation buttons.

An uncommon feature of the controller, present also on its Joy-Pad counterpart, is the two programmable back buttons (XL and XR) that can be mapped easily, enhancing gameplay, especially in genres like fighting games or those requiring repetitive actions. On the other hand, The Turbo button, designed for automatic continuous execution of a single mapped button, can be a time-saver in games that require repeated actions. However, their usefulness may be limited to specific gaming scenarios as mentioned above.

Tactile Sensation

Despite sharing similar dimensions with the Xbox Wireless Controller, the Omelet Pro+ Wireless Controller feels noticeably lighter, even with its built-in battery. However, the untextured grips might not provide the same level of grip as the Xbox controllers.

One thing I love about Omelet Pro+ Wireless Controller is the firm but not-too-hard resistance when moving its thumbsticks, which in my opinion, allows for more precise thumbsticks control. The anti-friction design of the thumbsticks also aids in enhancing accuracy in aiming and movement. The buttons, in general, are more tactile and less clicky than those on the Xbox controller, which in turn produces less noise. Notably, its L2 and R2 buttons offer the same tactile feel as its L1 and R1 buttons, unlike the softer trigger buttons on the Xbox controller.

Connectivity and Applicable Platforms

The Omelet Pro+ Wireless Controller offers versatility, supporting both wired (USB Type-C) and wireless modes on various platforms, including Windows, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch OLED, iOS, and Android. It also features gyro-sense functionality, a feature present on the Switch's Joy-Cons.

Connecting the controller to your gaming hardware is a breeze. In wired mode, it's as straightforward as plug-and-play. However, if you prefer wireless mode, the process varies slightly depending on your platform. For Windows and Nintendo Switch, simply press and hold the Pairing button on top of the controller for 2 seconds. The controller will enter Pairing mode, indicated by flashing blue LED lights. Then, head to your device's Bluetooth pairing menu and connect the controller. On mobile platforms, the procedure is a tad different. When the controller is switched off, you'll need to simultaneously press and hold the X+Home buttons (for Android) or B+Home buttons (for iOS). This action initiates mobile Pairing mode, allowing you to connect the controller to the respective mobile platform.

User Experience

My experience with the Omelet Pro+ Wireless Controller has been exceptionally satisfying. Its lightweight design is a definite plus, as it allows for extended gameplay without fatigue. I personally appreciate the tactile feedback of the buttons and thumbsticks, and the Pikachu-themed color scheme without a doubt adds an extra layer of joy for a Pokémon fan like me. While the extra features like programmable back buttons and Turbo function may not be a necessity for me, I still acknowledge their value for gamers who are open to advanced button mapping. It's worth noting that the controller comes with a USB Type-C cable for charging and gameplay, eliminating the need for an additional purchase. Moreover, the 1-year limited warranty provides further peace of mind against manufacturing defects, ensuring that your product is safeguarded after purchase.

Verdict

In my opinion, the Omelet Pro+ Wireless Controller is a compelling choice for gamers seeking to upgrade their gaming hardware. Its visually-appealing design, substantial tactile feedback, and versatile compatibility across multiple platforms make it a noteworthy addition to any gamer’s collection. While some extra features may not be utilized by all gamers, they offer added flexibility for those seeking a customizable gaming experience. Whether you're replacing old hardware or aiming to enhance your gaming experience, I highly recommend giving the Omelet Pro+ Wireless Controller series a try.

And that concludes Lluvia’s impression of the Omelet Pro+ Wireless Controller (Thunderbolt).

Available for MYR 179.90, the Omelet Pro+ Wireless Controller can now be purchased online or at participating game retailers, offering a choice of three captivating colors: Snow White, Jet Black, and the limited-edition ThunderBolt. Check out their official Shopee online store here.
