Visual novel publisher Visual Arts announces acquisition by Tencent, president Takahiro Baba retires
Today, Takahiro Baba, the representative director of Visual Arts, the Japanese developer and parent company of Key, known for creating multiple acclaimed works such as Kanon, AIR, Clannad, and Angel Beats!, officially announced his retirement. Along with his retirement, he will be transferring his shares in the company to Tencent, the Chinese tech giant.

Baba stated that the reason for his decision to retire is because, as a human being, one cannot avoid the concept of "lifespan." If possible, he would have loved to continue running this wonderful company indefinitely. However, at the age of 63, although he is in good health and still has many projects he wants to pursue, he recognizes that he is at an age where unexpected events can happen. Moreover, Baba currently owns 100% of the company's shares, and without a suitable successor in case of an unfortunate incident, the only option would be to close the company. Such an event would not only impact the company's operations and future but also lead to the loss of rights to many outstanding works and music.

The new presidency has now been handed over to Genki Tenkumo (Okano Tohya), and Baba will remain as an advisor, witnessing the company's growth and continuing to create emotionally touching stories and works.
