The Netflix live-action series based on the popular manga One Piece by Eiichiro Oda was a source of concern for fans before its release, given the history of many "disastrous" live-action adaptations in the past.
However, surprisingly, Netflix's adaptation of One Piece received not only positive reviews but also secured the top spot on the Netflix global series rankings. It has also achieved an impressive 85% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an audience score of 96%.
Of course, achieving such success means fans from around the world are eagerly awaiting news of the second season. Marty Adelstein, the CEO of Tomorrow Studios (the production company behind the live-action adaptation of One Piece), recently stated in an interview that they "have got scripts ready". However, due to the current strike by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) in the United States, production has not yet begun.
Meanwhile, Netflix has not yet made an official statement, but as soon as they approve, the second season will officially enter the production phase. Becky Clements, another co-producer of the series, mentioned that if everything goes smoothly, the production process might take 12 to 18 months, suggesting that if things progress swiftly, the second season could potentially be completed and released within a year.
According to official Netflix data, the live-action adaptation of One Piece attracted a staggering 1.4 billion hours of viewing time and 18.5 million views within just four days of its release. With such impressive numbers, it's hard to imagine Netflix not renewing the series, as live-action adaptations achieving such success are indeed rare.
