The Apothecary Diaries, the Japanese light novel series created by Natsu Hyuga, later adapted into a manga of the same name (illustrated by Nekokurage) in 2017, is now set to receive a TV anime adaptation. The anime's key visual and trailer were released, accompanied by announcements of voice cast members. Scheduled to premiere in October 2023, the anime will be produced by TOHO Animation Studio and OLM.
In The Apothecary Diaries, a young girl named Maomao, who is just 17 years old, has been kidnapped and forced to work as a servant within the ancient imperial court of China. Despite her circumstances, she perseveres with her inquisitive and pragmatic nature, determined to fulfill her duties until the end of her servitude.
Unexpectedly, Maomao stumbles upon the news that the emperor's twin infants have fallen seriously ill. Motivated by her background as a pharmacist raised in the poor red-light district, she resolves to take secret action to aid the ailing infants.
Although she intends to maintain her anonymity, her actions inevitably capture the attention of a powerful eunuch, thrusting her into the role of unraveling numerous mysteries within the imperial court.
