The Japanese manga series Cells at Work, created by Akane Shimizu, has announced an upcoming live-action film adaptation. Casting information has not yet been released, but it was revealed that the film will be directed by Hideki Takeuchi, who previously directed Nodame Cantabile and Fly Me to the Saitama, with a screenplay by Yuichi Tokunaga. Further details will be announced in near future.
In Cells at Work, the setting is inside the human body, where cells are personified and work tirelessly to maintain health. The series largely focuses on the stories of a new and inexperienced red blood cell, AE3803, who frequently gets lost during her deliveries, and an unyielding white blood cell, U-1146, who battles against invading germs.
