Sony’s Playstation 5 enjoyed its best quarter so far in terms of sales.
The console has shipped 7.1 million units for the fiscal quarter ending 31st December 2022, which was almost double the number sold during the same period in 2021, and more than half of the total units sold last year. As of the end of 2022, the number of cumulative sell-through units of PS5 has reached 30 million units.
Games & Network Services was also one of Sony’s segments that had seen a significant increase in revenue, increasing by just over 50% when compared to Q3 2021. In terms of the sales of first-party titles, Sony also had its best quarter since the release of PS5, as it achieved 20.8 million unit sales. This could largely be attributed to the success of God of War: Ragnarok.
On the other hand, the performance of PlayStation Plus was average, with only 46.4 million of active subscribers by the end of Q3 2022, recording a decrease of 1.6 million when compared to the same period last year. However, the number of active users on the PlayStation Network was decent, as there were 112 million monthly active users as of 31st December 2022, which was the second-highest total since the release of PS5.
More details are disclosed in Sony’s Q3 2022 financial report.
