On Sunday, the inaugural matches of the Asian Games Version of Arena of Valor (王者荣耀) were contested, with Malaysia and China poised to compete for the coveted gold medal in the final, scheduled for today at 7 PM (GMT+8). Meanwhile, Vietnam and Thailand are set to engage in a fierce battle at the third-place playoff.
Taking place in Hangzhou, this year's Asian Games marks a historic moment as esports makes its debut.
Following Malaysia's 2-0 triumph over Hong Kong in the quarter-finals, they proceeded to replicate their success by eliminating Vietnam in the semi-finals, once again with an authoritative 2-0 victory, thereby securing their place in the finals. On the other hand, the host nation, China, ousted Thailand by an identical 2-0 margin in the semi-finals.
While China holds the distinction of being the origin of the game and boasts the largest player base, Malaysia has emerged as a formidable challenger, aiming to become a team capable of rivaling the host nation's prestige within the game.
Arena of Valor’s Malaysian Team is represented by Lai Chia Chien (“Lcc2”, Mid Laner & Captain), Nicholas Ng Khai Shuan (“Xuan”, Solo Laner), Ong Jun Yang (“Muci”, Carry), Yong Zhan Quan (“ZhanQ”, Jungler), Eng Jun Hao (“Hao”, Support), and Chong Han Hui (“Hui”, Support), and coach Low Jia Cheng.
