制作人野村哲也以及鸟山求近期在《最终幻想10》20 周年开发者访谈中谈论了关于《最终幻想10-3》的话题，野村哲也表示已经让游戏剧本作家野岛一成撰写一份「如果有《最终幻想10-3》的话，故事大概会是怎样」的剧情大纲。而广播剧《最终幻想 10 Will》和小说《最终幻想 10-2.5：永远的代价》都是基于这个剧本来作为基础所创作，所以就算《最终幻想10》系列一直沉睡当中，但是关于续作的大致构想还是存在的。
另外，鸟山求表示若要实现推出《最终幻想10-3》的可能性并不为零，但目前的首要工作还是优先专注于《最终幻想 7:重制版》后续开发。
