SEGA's parent company, Sega Sammy Holdings, has confirmed its acquisition plans with Rovio Entertainment, the game developer behind Angry Birds. Although the $1 billion rumored price tag was not met, SEGA has still acquired the company for a whopping €706 million. SEGA stated that this acquisition is primarily to strengthen its position in the smartphone gaming sector, while Rovio aims to expand beyond the mobile gaming industry. Pending review from relevant authorities, the acquisition is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2023/2024.
