上村雅之出生于 1943 年，在 1967 年毕业于千叶工业大学电子工程学系，之后加入了早川电机工业株式会社（现在的 SHARP），而在 1971 年时跳槽加入任天堂株式会社，经历 8 年时间成为开发部总经理，期间他开发出了光线枪娱乐设施、红白机、超级任天堂等等产品，是任天堂的重大功臣之一，同时也是游戏界值得尊敬的老前辈，感谢他曾经带来这样棒的产品和游戏机。
