Nintendo Switch has entered its seventh year this month, and sales for the console remains strong in the market. In case you weren't aware, Nintendo 3DS was launched almost seven years after the release of Nintendo DS, while Switch debuted during 3DS's sixth year on the market. The production of 3DS lasted for three more years after the introduction of the former. If Nintendo has any plans to unveil a new console, 2023 might be the time for it.
Yet, speaking in an interview conducted by AP News, Head of Nintendo USA Doug Bowser said that he has "nothing to announce" regarding any future devices.
Nintendo is venturing into "uncharted territory" with the console, said Bowser, and they feel thrilled to observe that there is still a strong demand for it.
While the company still feels "very bullish" about the current console, Bowser added that future platforms will always aim to "surprise and delight", introducing "new unique ways of playing".
As of December 31, 2022, Nintendo Switch has sold 122.55 million units worldwide, making it the 3rd best-selling console of all time, behind only Nintendo DS (154 million units sold) and PlayStation 2 (158.7 million units sold). Given that worldwide sales for the console remains impressive to this date, it might not be long before it surpasses these records.
