此前就有各种传闻小岛秀夫与微软正在合作研发游戏，而今日举办的 Xbox 游戏直播发布会正式实锤了这个消息。小岛秀夫亲自出面表示：“Kojima Productions 将与微软合作，研发一款全新的作品，而且是从来没人做过或是见过的游戏，我已经等待很久，现在终于可以开始创作了。随着微软顶尖的云技术和行业趋势变化，现在挑战自己创造这个前所未见的概念已经成为可能，但这一切都需要时间，希望未来能够带来更多令人振奋的消息”。
虽然不知道小岛秀夫到底葫芦里卖什么药，可是他上述提到了微软的云技术，或许这款作品会与这方面的技术有某种结合运用。除此之外，早在去年他在接受采访的时候，也提到过希望制作一款可以“实时变化”，所以很大可能小岛秀夫将透过此次的合作来发挥自己天马行空的想法。
