Star Ocean: The Second Story R, an official remake of the game originally released in 1998, was announced today at the Nintendo Direct livestream, revealing its upcoming release date on November 2, 2023, available on PlayStation 4 / PlayStation 5 / Nintendo Switch / Steam.

Star Ocean: The Second Story R not only combines beautiful 3D environments with nostalgic 2D pixel art character designs but also features completely redrawn character illustrations based on the original version. Also, the game has invited the original voice actors to provide voiceovers for all the events. On the other hand, the combat system retains the simple, exhilarating, and visually stunning features of the Star Ocean series, with faster gameplay pacing and more opportunities to enjoy cooperative play with your friends.
