Naughty Dog, the developer of The Last of Us series, has announced that they will cease the development of the multiplayer online game The Last of Us Online. As per the official statement, the decision to cease development primarily arose from the challenge of allocating a substantial number of resources for ongoing maintenance, corrections, and operations of the game after it is released. Thus, the decision was made to prevent any adverse impact on the development of future single-player games.
Faced with the choice between becoming an online service-oriented game studio or focusing on their signature single-player narrative games, developer Naughty Dog decisively opted for the latter. They take pride in everyone at the studio being involved in this project, and the experience gained and technological investments from this game will play a crucial role in their future project developments.
Meanwhile, Naughty Dog has also revealed their ambitious plans for upcoming single-player games. They mentioned that they will provide relevant updates once the timing is right.
