Games that have been available on the PC platform have often been subject to various mods used by players to add features or change models, with Capcom's Resident Evil series undoubtedly among the most frequently modded games by players.
However, it's important to note that these actions are not supported by Capcom.
At the recent Capcom Open Conference RE: 2023, the Capcom R&D department reiterated their stance on mods, firmly discouraging players from using them.
Capcom engineer Taro Yahagi, during his speech, stated that using mods to modify game content in any unofficial capacity, for reasons related to anti-cheating or anti-piracy, is akin to cheating.
Such actions also come with numerous risks, such as potentially affecting players' computers, damaging the IP's image or reputation, impacting game sales, and increasing the workload for the development team.
This is because when players using mods report issues, it can be challenging for the development team to pinpoint the root of the problems.
However, it's important to note that Capcom has not directly banned the use of mods. Players can still install various mods, but they must be aware of and accept the potential harm and risks associated with using third-party mods.
